Whether you are coming to the hospital for a doctor’s appointment or an overnight stay, use this website to get help planning your stay at Children’s Hospital, including:

If you need help while you are in the hospital, you can ask someone at the Information Desk. Or you can ask any of our staff.

Before your visit, we suggest you

  • Check the LHSC Map to locate hospital parking.
  • Review the detailed map of Children's Hospital (PDF).
  • Give yourself lots of time to find Patient Registration, and the clinic or appointment location.
  • Review any instructions provided by the physician’s office.

Patient Registration

Check in at the Patient Registration Desk at the location given to you by your doctor. Admitting times are assigned depending on your procedure.

What to Bring

Bring the following to your child’s appointment

  • Your child’s Ontario health card.
  • Your child’s Children’s Hospital card.
  • Your appointment card or letter.
  • Any medication your child is taking.
  • Family doctor's name and telephone number.
  • Any medical information, such as referral letters, X-rays or CT scans, vaccination record.

You might also need

  • Your pre-admission form
  • Other health care insurance information or drug card
  • Medical information, such as an X-ray or CT scan

Things to bring from home

  • Your child's own clothes, including slippers and shoes, and clothes for going home
  • A few favourite toys, books, and family pictures to remind your child of home
  • Toiletries, like toothbrush, toothpaste, brush, comb, shampoo and soap
  • Any important medical aids such as eyeglasses, hearing aids, braces, or crutches
  • Disposable diapers, diaper bag and a stroller (if you have an infant)
  • Any clothing and personal items you will need for yourself if you are staying with your child
  • Lip balm or Vaseline for dry lips
  • Small amount of money for incidentals such as newspapers, snacks, phone rental

What Not to Bring

  • Latex balloons
  • Baby walkers
  • Small toys that can be swallowed
  • Electrical equipment
  • Perfume and other fragrances

Medications

If your child is taking prescription medications, please bring the medications or a list of the medications when coming for your visit.

  • Please tell your nurse or doctor about any medication your child has recently stopped taking, allergies to food or medication, or any type of adverse reaction your child has experienced.
  • Any medications prescribed while in the hospital will be supplied.
  • Do not take any medications from home (e.g. eye drops, study drugs, ointment, and cream) unless they have been approved by your child’s doctor.

Parking

The following will give you suggestions on where you park that is closest to your child’s doctor’s office or test location.

ZONES A, C and D – use Parking Lots P1 and P2 – north of Commissioners Road. When you exit your car, you are just across from admitting and access to Zones A, C and D

ZONE B -  use Parking Lot P8 (Garage 1) - off Baseline Road, Dagone Drive, west of B Tower

ZONE E – use Parking Lot P3 – north of Commissioners Road, south of Zone E; OR

ZONE E – use Parking Lot P7 – south of Baseline Road, north of Zone E

Parking Costs

  • $4.00 for the first hour, $2.00 for each additional half hour, up to a maximum of $12.00
  • Passes are available from attendant in booth, open:
    • 8:00 a.m. - 11:30 p.m. Monday - Friday
    • 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Saturday & Sunday
    • 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday (passes may be purchased at the Parking Office)
  • Passes available are:
    • Daily $14.00 (valid until midnight of day purchased)
    • Weekly $45 - valid 24/7
    • Monthly $75 - valid 24/7

Please note that parking rates are current as of October 28, 2013 but are subject to change.

Parking Passes

Parking passes may be purchased from an attendant in a parking booth during the following days and times:

  • Monday to Friday: 8:00 a.m. - 11:30 p.m.
  • Saturday to Sunday: 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Parking Office

  • Location: Lot P8, parking garage lower level, Room 105
  • Hours: Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Handicap Spaces   
Available in all parking lots and at admitting and discharge areas located at Zone E, Westminster Tower.

Family Parking Meters   
Available in the Emergency parking lot with priority assigned for families with small children.

There are also a limited number of meters available in the visitor’s lot at the admitting and discharge area located south of Zone E, Westminster Tower.

Look for the signs indicating reserved for families with small children who are going to the Paediatric Medical Day Unit.

Visitors

We are committed to working with patients and families to provide compassionate, high-quality care. We believe it is important for patients to experience the support of family and friends.

  • Visiting is based on the condition, care needs, and expressed wishes of each patient in the unit.
  • For this reason, visiting times may vary between patients and units. We ask patients or visitors to check with unit staff about the best times to visit.
  • Visiting may be interrupted to provide appropriate patient care.
  • Visiting will be restricted to protect the privacy rights of other patients or to maintain safety and security.
  • Family members supporting a patient between the overnight hours of 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. are asked to remain in the patient’s room and advise unit staff when coming to and leaving the unit.

Cell Phone Use

Children’s Hospital restricts the use of cell phones and other wireless technology because of their potential to interfere with medical devices.

Signs are posted indicating where cell phones are allowed and where they are prohibited.

Please look for the sign before using a cell phone.
