Thoracic surgeons provide specialized clinical care for patients with a wide range of serious diseases of the thorax (the chest). These include conditions of the lungs, mediastinum (middle of the chest), chest wall, esophagus, diaphragm, and stomach.
Our patient referrals come from all areas of Southwestern Ontario in addition to other provinces within Canada.
Since our patients suffer from numerous diseases, our surgical training has been very intense and extensive.
We are also educators to students and residents. We are associated with the Schulich School of Medicine at Western University. The Division of Thoracic Surgery was started here at London Health Sciences Centre in 1994. Since then, we have been actively involved in a fellowship training program mentoring future thoracic surgeons. Our success in postgraduate surgical education is well known both across the country and internationally.
We participate in numerous clinical research projects offering new treatment options to our patient population. These range from intra-hospital (local), to provincial, national, and global trials investigating new surgical procedures, new surgical techniques, new devices and new medications.
