May 10, 2018
This week is Emergency Preparedness Week. Held each May, the week aims to raise awareness about the importance of being prepared in the event of an emergency, making a plan and packing a kit.
For the second year in a row, members of London Health Sciences Centre’s CBRNE emergency response team will be participating in the Emergency Preparedness Open House in Byron this Saturday. CBRNE stands for chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosives; and represent the types of materials that can result in significant human injury or death due to either man-made or environmental hazards.
The LHSC team will be one of many community partners onsite and will be there to inflate one of the hospital’s emergency response tents, display the personal protective equipment you would see hospital staff wearing in different situations, and share more information about how LHSC prepares for large scale external emergencies and disasters.
The Open House highlights how LHSC works together with community partners to ensure we are prepared to respond to significant adverse events in our community. In addition to speaking with members of the LHSC emergency response team, attendees will have the opportunity to:
- Tour London’s Emergency Operations and Training Centre
- Register for Alert London Emergency Mass Notification System
- Check out emergency vehicles, safety displays, and speak with a range of emergency services personnel
- Learn how to prepare your family for the first 72 hours
Members of the community are encouraged to attend this free event and learn more about emergency situations. We hope to see you there!
