London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) is pleased to present our 2024-2029 Accessibility Plan as we continue to make progress in our journey to create a health-care environment where everyone can feel safe, valued and affirmed.
LHSC is committed to identifying and removing barriers that present a challenge to people when accessing the spaces, information or services they need. To advance work in this important area, our new Accessibility Plan outlines strategies to improve accessibility and inclusion for patients, families, visitors, members of the community and Team LHSC.
Our 2024-2029 Accessibility Plan represents the path forward for LHSC to ensure that people of all abilities can access services, spaces, employment, and information in a way that meets their individual needs. It identifies our goals and outlines opportunities to improve accessibility and inclusion in five key areas:
- General accessibility;
- Customer service;
- Employment;
- Information and communications; and
- Design of public spaces.
“The 2024-2029 Accessibility Plan represents a significant milestone in our efforts to advance accessibility and inclusion at LHSC,” says Jill Sangha, Health Equity Lead. “We are proud to say that this plan belongs to all of us, as it was developed through extensive collaboration and consultation with agency partners, members of the community, and Team LHSC.”
To ensure the 2024-2029 Accessibility Plan was inclusive of all perspectives, LHSC’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion team implemented a strategy to solicit input from external and internal stakeholders. The plan was drafted in consultation with departments from across the organization and shared with community agencies, patients, visitors, community members and Team LHSC to collect their feedback.
As LHSC continues to make progress towards our accessibility and inclusion goals, we are excited to share our successes and achievements with the community. Stay tuned to hear about the latest developments and improvements at LHSC.
