The Blood and Marrow Transplant Program (BMTP) at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) has been awarded
internationally-recognized accreditation by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT).
This accreditation applies to all services and facilities that were inspected by FACT, including clinical outpatient and inpatient areas, the Apheresis Collection Facility and Processing Facility within Transfusion Medicine at LHSC:
- Adult allogeneic and autologous hematopoietic progenitor cellular therapy
- Peripheral blood cellular therapy product collection
- Cellular therapy product processing with minimal manipulation
In order to achieve accreditation, the program’s services were evaluated and assessed by a team of surveyors. The surveyors looked at both processes and care practices within the program.
“The goal upon completion of the application process is that you are compliant in over 1,500 standards. This requires a great deal of process and document development in each area,” says Renee Dickey, BMTP Quality Specialist at LHSC. “During the inspection, FACT reviews, with various staff, the various standards and ensures the program meets each one.”
The staff and physicians involved in the preparation for the surveyors visit helped ensure compliance with the FACT-JACIE International Standards for Hematopoietic Cellular Therapy and were instrumental in this achievement.
“It is wonderful for our program to be accredited. This achievement highlights our commitment to patients who require stem cell transplants,” Dickey says. “It is the team’s dedication to and passion for quality patient care and services that enabled us to receive this significant achievement.”
LHSC joins some of its system partners who have also received FACT accreditation in separate surveys. A full list of FACT accredited organizations can be found on the FACT website.
