At the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) Annual Members’ Meeting on June 28, 2023, the organization welcomed Matthew Wilson as the new Chair of the LHSC Board of Directors. After expertly serving as the Chair since 2021, Phyllis Retty will move into the position of Past Chair.
Matthew has served on LHSC’s Board since 2016 and has sat on multiple Board committees. As a real estate lawyer at Siskinds Law Firm, Matthew lends his skill and expertise to guide LHSC in decision-making in the best interest of the communities it serves. As Chair, he will sit as an ex-officio member on all Board Committees.
“I am honoured to have been elected by my colleagues,” said Matthew. “LHSC is one of Canada’s largest research-intensive acute care teaching hospitals, and is the largest employer in the London region. These great people, Team LHSC, dedicate themselves every day to providing great care to our patients. I look forward to serving our community together.”
Phyllis Retty will remain on the LHSC Board of Directors as she applies her vast experience and perspective to the Board’s Executive, Strategic Redevelopment and Research committees, while also acting as the LHSC Board representative on the Children’s Health Foundation Board of Directors.
Phyllis’ leadership has guided LHSC through a pivotal moment in the organization’s history, helping Team LHSC to navigate the pandemic and its lasting impacts. She has supported several transformational projects that began over the course of her tenure, including the recruitment of a new President and CEO, the initiation of LHSC’s Master Planning process, the establishment of new governance and executive relationships with local and regional health services partners, the achievement of Accreditation with Exemplary Standing, and the strengthening of our academic partnership with Western University.
Phyllis was initially appointed to the Board of Directors in 2015, following her retirement from 3M Canada. Phyllis’ 35-year career spanned experience in finance and human resources –providing invaluable experience to foster meaningful change and establish clear priorities for the Board and hospital.
“The diverse skillsets of this Board have brought tremendous perspective, expertise and passion during a transformational time in LHSC’s history,” said Phyllis. “In addition to my Board colleagues, I want to thank our exceptional staff, physicians and volunteers who work to provide exceptional experiences for all patients, families and visitors every day. I am honoured to have served as your Board Chair, helping to support LHSC’s delivery of safe, high-quality care and ongoing pursuit of excellence.”
