London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) has won the 2024 Canadian Blood Services Hospital Challenge (CBS), achieving the most blood donations — 117 units — during the Ontario-wide hospital challenge from August to October 2024.

“I’m proud of our staff, physicians, learners, volunteers, and community members for taking on the challenge and donating blood to support our patients,” says David Musyj, Supervisor at LHSC. “Blood plays a critical role in everyday medical care at our hospitals, and these donations help ensure a steady supply.”

The CBS Hospital Challenge is an annual event now in its 15th year, where hospitals across Ontario compete to donate the most units of blood per capita, based on their employee population. During the challenge, LHSC staff and community members are encouraged to join the team and donate blood to support patients. Donations are tracked through the Partners for Life program, created by CBS to engage corporate companies and community organizations in large-scale blood donation efforts.

This initiative is a meaningful way to come together and make a difference — and your continued support is crucial. Blood is essential for surgeries, cancer treatment, chronic illnesses, and traumatic injuries, and more donations are needed. CBS is calling on people across the country to become new donors this winter and take part in the 450 Challenge. Every day, 450 new donors are needed to meet the growing demand for blood.

Tell your family, friends, and neighbours. Many appointment options are available at convenient locations across London and Middlesex County, including the CBS donation centre at 820 Wharncliffe Road South in London.
