Your child has received one or more of the following medication(s) to facilitate their dental treatment:
- Nitrous Oxide ("Laughing Gas")
- Versed (Midazolam)
- Other
The sedative effect of nitrous oxide generally wears off within a few minutes after the appointment. However, your child may still appear dizzy and uncoordinated during this time. Therefore, it is important to carry or hold on to your child to ensure that they do not injure themselves or others. Your child should still be supervised carefully for 1 hour after their appointment.
If your child has received Versed, they will continue to be sedated until the medicine wears off. To ensure your child's safety, you must follow these instructions carefully. If your child will be cared for by someone else within the first few hours following the appointment, please ensure that they understand these instructions as well:
- Your child should rest or play quietly and be directly supervised for at least 4 hours.
- Your child may be clumsy and uncoordinated during this time and should not engage in any activities that may cause harm to themselves. For example, running, bike riding, climbing or playground activities, and any activities involving sharp objects such as scissors should be avoided. Your chld should also not go up and sown stairs by themselves, stay away from high places (balconies, windows, etc.) and roads or any other dangerous areas. Falling asleep after the appointment is common and probably the safest.
If your chld has any unsual symptoms or if you are concerned fro any reason, please call the office at 519-685-8263, or after hours 519-685-8500 and asking for the intern on-call
