Program Description:
This program provides care to both outpatients and inpatients. The care provided consists of antenatal triage, labour and delivery, as well as caesarian births.
General Information:
Number of beds: 3 Birthing Rooms, 4 labour rooms
Team Composition: RN’s, CNS, Social Worker, Dietician, Obstetricians, OB residents, medical students, nursing students, Anesthesia, Pharmacist
Average Length of Stay: 2-48 hours
Nurse to patient ratio: 1:1 in active labour, 1:3-4 triage
Hospital Site: Victoria Hospital Level 3
Scheduling Information:
- There are 4, 8, and 12 hour shifts available
- 0700-1900, 1900-0700, 0700-1500, 1500-2300, 2300-0700
Background Essentials:
- Registered Nurse, currently registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Recent obstetrical nursing experience required
- NRP certification or intent to complete within 6mos-1yr
- Breast feeding course or intent to complete within 6mos-1yr
- Demonstrated skills in patient teaching
- Knowledge of philosophy and concepts of Family Centred Care
- Well-developed assessment skills and nursing knowledge base
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interact effectively in a team environment
- Ability to establish a therapeutic rapport and skilled in the identification of strengths, coping abilities and needs of women and families
- Demonstrated professional growth and development
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
- Effective conflict identification and resolution skills
Professional Assets:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- CNA Perinatal Certification
- Recent completion of the Fetal/Maternal Assessment and/or Obstetrical/Neonatal nursing course
- BCLS
Professional Development:
