Hospitalizations

Sometimes patients with cystic fibrosis need to be in the hospital, especially to treat worsened lung infection. These hospitalizations often last two weeks, but can be shorter or longer. During the hospitalization, patients get antibiotics through an intravenous (IV) line and have some blood tests. There are ways to make the hospitalization less frightening than it might otherwise be. For our paediatric patients, Child Life can be involved to offer support and distraction techniques during procedures. There are play rooms for the children to go to and we have a clown, Ollie, who helps to cheer you up. For more information please ask your nurse case manager.
