Fluorescent Lamps – Our Engineering department sent over 6,900 fluorescent light bulbs to Fluorescent Lamp Recyclers (FLR) Technologies Inc. for recycling. The amount of glass recycled from these bulbs was 2,025 kg. Phosphor powder, metals and mercury are also among the elements recycled and diverted from landfill.
Mercury – Mercury thermometers have been eliminated at LHSC and 99% of blood pressure manometers containing mercury have been removed.
Digital Imaging – The hospital has moved to filmless imaging which has eliminated paper, chemical, water, plastic and electrical waste by eliminating around 3,000,000 hard copy films a year.
