Centralized Access Point (CAP) is the main entry for community referrals to access adult mental health outpatient services provided by both London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) and St. Joseph’s Health Care London.
Eligibility Requirements
- Serving individuals ages 18 to 64 (Early Intervention/First Episode Programs provide treatment to youth aged 16 and older)
- Serving residents of London and Middlesex County
- Assessment and treatment of primary psychiatric conditions including those with addictions
- Mood and Anxiety including first episode
- Psychosis including first episode
- Eating disorders
- Urgent referrals requiring psychiatric consultation
- Available services are a match for individual’s needs
Exclusion Criteria
- Crisis/Emergency
- Family and Children Services: parenting assessments
- Competency Assessments
- Court/legal purposes or involvement to satisfy third party requests
- WSIB claims
- Dual Diagnosis
- Forensic Assessments
- Cognitive impairment; dementia, head injury
- Needs that would be better met by other services
Referral Process
- A physician or nurse practitioner or a psychiatrist is to complete the appropriate referral form found on the Referral Processes webpage.
- Referrals are screened and triaged by a member of the centralized access team
- Referrals are reviewed between 8:30am and 4:00pm Monday through Friday (except statutory holidays).
- In the event that the referral is incomplete or is not accepted, the referring source will receive notification.

Current services available through Centralized Access Point:
- Non-urgent Psychiatry consultation with limited follow up as appropriate
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
- Adult Eating Disorders
- The Urgent Consultation Service with up to 6 follow up sessions
- The Early Intervention Psychosis Program (PEPP)

Specialized Services (available through St. Joseph’s Parkwood Institute) include:
- Ambulatory Electroconvulsive Treatment(ECT)
- Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Clinic
- Consultation and intensive case management for individuals with Concurrent Disorders
- Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) for individuals with Schizophrenia
- Interprofessional case management for individuals with severe mental illness requiring rehabilitation
Service Limitations
- Centralized Access is unable to provide linkage for individual, couple, marital or family counseling or ongoing care with an individual psychiatrist.
