To an Occupational Therapist, occupation is much more than a person’s work. We consider occupations to be all the things that a person does in their daily life. This includes work but also leisure activities, self-care activities like washing and dressing or any of the tasks that are done to fulfill roles such as student, husband, friend etc. We believe that occupation gives meaning to life and that occupation is an important determinant of health and well-being. We view people as occupational beings with diverse abilities for participating in occupations.
Occupational therapists practice in a client-centred manner that recognizes the client’s uniqueness and expertise as active participants in the therapy process.
