Patient safety is the top priority at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), where we all play a role in patient safety. Using the HSMR data to help identify areas for improvement helps improve patient safety.
The HSMR measures whether the number of deaths at LHSC is higher or lower than one would expect, based on the average experience of Canadian hospitals. This ratio examines the number of in-hospital deaths expected using patient specific information for a hospital or region. LHSC uses HSMR data for measuring and monitoring quality of care, examining our performance and continuously improving the care we provide patients and the community.
