London Health Sciences Centre continues to work with Children’s Hospital of Michigan to provide information they require for assessment of Baby Joseph’s medical file.
LHSC is providing the entire medical record to the hospital, and have agreed to await the decision of the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. At this point in time, we have received no official request to transfer Baby Joseph.
The Superior Court of Ontario directive required the family to provide consent for the removal of Baby Joseph’s endotracheal breathing tube by 10:00 a.m. today. We have not received that consent. The court order now requires LHSC to engage the Public Guardian.
Throughout Joseph’s stay at LHSC, the health care team has regularly met with the family and involved them in every care decision regarding their child. We will continue to offer them the support they need. End of life care is difficult for family and staff, particularly when the patient is a child. Our priority is to ensure that all patients receive compassionate, dignified and respectful care.
