When an emergency situation arises, it may be difficult to think of what to grab as you rush to the Emergency Department. But if you have some time to gather items before heading out the door, try to keep these in mind:
- Valid health card
- List of medications and/or supplements (such as vitamins or herbal products) you are currently taking. If possible, bring the medications/supplements in their original bottling.
- The name and contact information of your primary care physician, or the primary care physician of the child/adult you are accompanying to the Emergency Department.
- A list of your allergies, or the allergies of the child/adult you are accompanying to the Emergency Department.
- If applicable, insurance information and coverage.
- Any health records you may have concerning your health.
- If required, a support person. Please keep in mind, that all children should be accompanied by an adult.
- If you are accompanying a child, please remember to bring diapers and the child's favourite toy or activity book.
- If the wait is expected to be lengthy, please consider bringing a phone charger, water bottle, book, headphones and a snack.
