NICU Medication Manual
The monographs that are included in this NICU Medication Manual represent summaries of the pharmacology and side effects of drugs that are used in newborns and neonates at LHSC. The monographs contain pertinent clinical information, but are not comprehensive documents. They are to be used in conjunction with clinical expertise and judgment. This Manual has been designed for use in the NICU at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), London, Ontario, Canada, and represents clinical practice at this institution. The information contained within the Manual may not be applicable to other centres.
As for previous editions, the available literature and clinical experience have been used to develop the monographs. Reference to IM injection has been deliberately left out for most monographs. LHSC feels that this route of administration should be avoided, where possible, in newborns and neonates.
Every effort has been made to ensure that monographs remain accurate and current. However, the user should be aware that while attempts are made to keep the Manual updated, LHSC does not guarantee that individual monographs represent the ‘up to the minute’ latest information.
If users of this Manual are not familiar with a drug, it is recommended that the official monograph be consulted before it is prescribed and administered. Any user of this information is advised that the contributors, Editor and LHSC are not responsible for any errors or omissions, and / or any consequences arising from the use of the information in this Manual.
