LONDON, OntarioLONDON, Ontario – Congratulations to LHSC nephrologist Dr. William Clark who was recently awarded the 2012 Kidney Foundation of Canada Medal for Research Excellence. Earlier this year, Dr. Clark was also awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his charity work with the Kidney Foundation of Canada.

The Kidney Foundation of Canada Medal for Research Excellence is presented annually to a Canadian resident who is recognized nationally and internationally for excellence in kidney-related research. Dr. Clark has also devoted himself to advocacy and fundraising on behalf of the Kidney Foundation of Canada. To date, Dr. Clark has helped to raise funds in excess of $1 million dollars.

“I am humbled to receive an award honouring my career achievements,” says Dr. Clark. “Throughout my career I have worked with exceptional people and it has been a team effort, especially in my research work.”

In a career spanning three decades, Dr. Clark has gained international recognition for his observational studies, randomized clinical trials and treatment of kidney patients. Most recently, he has gained worldwide attention for his work examining the increased risks of initiating dialysis treatment early and for the long-term follow-up of the Walkerton water contamination tragedy.

“It is wonderful to see Dr. Clark honoured in multiple ways for his many career achievements,” says Bonnie Adamson, president and CEO, LHSC. “Dr. Clark’s exemplary clinical, research and fundraising efforts flow from his tremendous passion and drive and truly exemplify the very best of LHSC.”
