Register to attend the free public education session

(LONDON, Ontario) – London Health Sciences Centre's London Regional Cancer Program, in partnership with the Middlesex-London Health Unit, is pleased to host a free public education session on sun safety.

Melanoma is one of the most rapidly rising cancers. It is expected that there will be 5,500 new cases and 950 related deaths in Canada this year. While genetics plays a significant role in development of melanoma, intermittent and chronic sun exposure is an important risk factor for melanoma and other forms of skin cancer.

"Spring is an ideal time of year to remind people of the many simple, practical things they can do to better sun-protect themselves and reduce their risk of developing melanoma," says Dr. Scott Ernst, Head of Medical Oncology at LHSC's London Regional Cancer Program.

Dr. Ernst will host the session and will be joined by community dermatologist, Dr. Wei Jing Loo and Dr. Kathryn Roth, reconstructive surgeon at St. Joseph's Health Care London.
