You have been referred to the COMET Clinic at University Hospital-London Health Sciences Centre due to your diagnosis of MASLD. Our goal is to work with you in understanding your values, beliefs, as well as your medical, surgical and psychosocial history to provide comprehensive counseling and develop a management plan that is tailored to you.
What to expect for your visit at COMET Clinic
- During your clinic visit, you will first undergo a standardized intake process for us to appropriately understand your history and identify your specific needs. You will be asked to fill out a few questionnaires.
- You will then have a basic assessment by our nursing staff who will check your:
- vital signs: blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and respiratory rate,
- body weight,
- waist circumference,
- body composition assessment using a bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) machine.
- This will be followed by assessments by our team of liver specialists (hepatologists and fellows), dietitians and physiotherapists.
- If deemed appropriate for the management of your disease, you may be referred to an endocrinologist, health psychologist, or bariatric surgeon, who you would see during a separate visit.
At the end of your visit
You will have been comprehensively assessed for your metabolic profile, and the degree of fat and scarring in your liver. You will also be provided personalized recommendations for the management of your MASLD, including a dietary regimen, exercise plan, medication recommendations, referrals to other specialists as well as recommendations for follow-up blood work, elastography testing and return to the COMET Clinic.
Preparing for your visit
- Do not consume alcohol or caffeine 24 hours prior.
- Ensure that you are well hydrated the day prior to the visit.
- Do not eat or exercise three hours prior.
- Do not use lotion or ointment on your hands or feet the day of your visit.
- Fill out the provided “3-Day Food Journal” logging what you ate on any two (2) weekdays and one weekend day (Saturday OR Sunday).
- Wear comfortable clothes and shoes to the clinic.
- Bring along a list of all over-the-counter and prescription medications, vitamins, minerals, and supplements that you take.
