Matthew Mailing Memorial Golf Tournament
In late 2004, family and friends of Matthew Mailing gathered to present the proceeds of the inaugural Matthew Mailing Memorial Golf Tournament, held in July 2004, to London Health Sciences Centre. The tournament, established to celebrate the life of Matthew Mailing, enjoyed great support from hospital staff, friends and family of the young man, who passed away in the summer of 2003 from complications related to transplant surgery. A total of $14,000 was raised from the sold-out event held at St. Thomas Golf and Country Club.
Mailing had been a strong supporter of LHSC's Multi-Organ Transplant Program. As a result of his generosity and foresight, he bequeathed one-third of his estate to the program and gave the gift of sight to two individuals awaiting corneal transplants. In addition to the golf proceeds and the bequest, Mailing's parents, Carol and Gary Mailing, made a personal gift to the Transplant Program, and many family and friends made memorial donations to the hospital in Mailing's honour.
The Matthew Mailing Memorial Golf Tournament was spearheaded by family and friends of Mailing to honour his memory, to raise awareness for organ and tissue donation, and to raise funds for the Multi-Organ Transplant Program at London Health Sciences Centre. London Health Sciences Centre and the Foundation are grateful to everyone who participated in and supported this event.
