Trauma Research is a priority for the Program in fulfilling both a regional and provincial role as a Lead Trauma Hospital (LTH). Primary areas of interest in trauma research include injury epidemiology, effectiveness of interventions, and improvement in patient outcomes. Research related to the physiological response to injury (i.e. bench research) is also conducted to a lesser extent.
The Trauma Program has two research teams (adult and paediatric) that are collaborative, interdisciplinary teams responsible for facilitating the development and coordination of trauma research activities at LHSC.
The Trauma Program is also active in multi-centre, collaborative research on a national level through participation in the Canadian Trauma Trials Collaborative, a subcommittee of the Trauma Association of Canada (TAC).
