Just think where we would be today if the research over 50 years ago had not resulted in the discovery of penicillin, and you will understand why ongoing research is so vitally important in order to improve patient care in the future. Members of the clinic are actively involved in research into the nature and treatment of neuromuscular disease. Some of this involves trials of promising therapies in patients with specific neuromuscular disorders. In other research, we study how we might improve the diagnosis of such disorders using electrophysiology.
Finally, we are involved at a fundamental science level in studying the processes involved in various diseases, and on developing and assessing therapies in the laboratory not yet suitable for trials in humans.
