What are Neuromuscular diseases?

Simply stated, they are disorders which affect nerves (neuropathies), or the junction between nerve and muscle (disorders of neuromuscular transmission).

They may present in many ways, including weakness, numbness or pain; and include a wide variety of disorders. 

Common problems for referral to the clinic might include motor neuron diseases, hereditary sensory and motor neuropathies (eg;  Charcot-Marie Tooth disease), muscular dystrophies, acquired peripheral neuropathies, myopathies (due to other diseases and infections, drugs or toxins) or autoimmune disorders such as myasthenia gravis and the Guillain-Barré syndrome.
