Respiratory Therapist are certified Health Care Professionals with expertise in the assessment and management of respiratory (or breathing) problems. They are also called "RTs" or "RRTs" (Registered Respiratory Therapist).
Respiratory Therapists provide coverage throughout Victoria Hospital, with a core group assigned 24 hours per day in the CCTC. They will be involved in the care of all patients who are receiving invasive (provided through a breathing tube) or non-invasive mechanical ventilation (provided by face mask). They may also be involved in the care of patients with breathing difficulties who are not receiving mechanical ventilation.
