Trauma Education

Regional (Rural) Trauma Team Development Course (RTTDC)

As a lead trauma hospital, the London Health Sciences Center (LHSC) is committed to improving the outcomes for trauma patients in Southwestern Ontario. We strive to accomplish this by improving communications between providers in the region and by offering the RTTDC collaborative education program.

To accomplish this purpose the LHSC Trauma Program coordinates and delivers the RTTDC program to rural hospitals in the southwest region, and organizes and sponsors other trauma education activities such as: bi-monthly trauma newsletters, the annual Talk Trauma conference, and staff in-services.

The Rural Trauma Team Development Course (RTTDC) emphasizes a team approach to the initial evaluation and resuscitation of the trauma patient at a rural facility. The one-day course includes interactive lectures on both medical procedures and communication strategies and three team performance scenarios.

Feedback from physicians, nurses and allied health care professional who attend these outreach education programs is very positive. Participants complete a brief evaluation following each program and the majority indicated that the program met their expectations and needs and they would attend similar sessions in the future.
